Who should of been chosen to win the intercontinental championship in 1987?

Ricky the Dragon Steamboat was champion and needed to take some time off so they chose Honky Tonk Man to be win the title. Who do you think would have been a better choice?

Honky Tonk Man got over mostly on gimmick, so it's still something that fit well for the WWF. The character did get over in WWF as a heel...so it worked.

But there were plenty of wrestlers who could've held the title during that time. I'm not going to say Mr. Perfect, he was still in the AWA at that time, I don't know if Rick Rude had arrived just yet in the WWF at that time...those two held the IC belt in their careers anyway, but there were plenty others who could've held it besides Honky.

Examples are Junkyard Dog, Roddy Piper (though he got to hold the belt a few years later), Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, The Magnificent Muraco, maybe putting the belt on Nikolai Volkoff would've been huge since the Soviet Union was at odds during the Cold War with the U.S. at the time, and he was already pretty hated by teaming with The Iron Shiek. There were plenty of options to go on who to put the IC belt on at that time..it was a luxury the WWF had during that time with the deep roster they had.
